Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speaking. She founded Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received accolades for her work. She is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on the representation of women in pop stories of culture - was created and is directed by Sarkeesian. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes associated with women in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet world. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. In addition to being an acclaimed public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age Sarkeesian was captivated with gender issues and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. She had a plan to create an online series that examined the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. This attack was not enough to halt her. It actually strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critique. Many awards have been presented to her for all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She is also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture representations of females.
